Hi there, February, you wildcard of a winter month. You never know what you will get in New York City during Aquarius season, so prepare as best you can. She’s a wild card.
I’ve had many thoughts and observations lately regarding the fabulous people crossing my path and paying attention to why they are showing up in the first place. I’m loving doing this interview series for the Ageist, and I’m so damn humbled by the awesomeness of these powerful warriors defying the odds and living their very best lives long past when society deems it so. Their common thread is resilience, curiosity, connection, community, purpose, and physical and mental movement. Trust me, I’m paying attention.
It’s beyond inspiring because, frankly, this perimenopause thing is kinda sucky. I know it’s not bad for everyone, but it’s a weird hang for me. I’m feeling hot and bothered, literally and figuratively, and trying to embrace the ick. Hello, ick. See?
In other news, I was fortunate enough to style a personal project for an amazingly talented creative (more on that soon) that featured some amazing women of a certain age. They are beautiful, wise, beyond well-dressed, and most of all, authentically themselves at all times. One of them told me I should never wear silver, and I probably never will again. A good takeaway from a powerful day.
And now, a few things.
I know these very, very spendy zipper front Row boots are ubiquitous for certain well-heeled civilians, but damn. I love ‘em. They haunt my dreams and seem like the perfect salve to this gloomy weather.
I spotted Cass Bird, Jenna Lyons’. girlfriend, wearing this diamond necklace, and jeez. It's so over the top and so awesome. Here’s a cheaper crystal one just for shits and gigs.
I can’t help but love these PJs. Long live the queen.
Also, this mafia wife crap is so dumb. If I see one more woman walking around New York in REAL fur (gross) and sweatpants, I may require a lobotomy. Brain drain aside, I just watched Griselda on Netflix, featuring Sofia Vergara as Griselda Blanco, the infamous cocaine godmother in Miami. Besides her crazy makeup job, murderous temper, and weird teeth, the style was on point. I literally can’t stop thinking about her, and though she was pure evil, this little series was super entertaining . I’d rock a silky set like this day and night to channel that Miami 70s energy. Why be a wife when you can run the whole damn show? Long live Griseldacore.
Because of one particular late-night rabbit hole, I have become obsessed with tuxedo shirts. I love them with leather pants, jeans, flared trousers, you name it. This one from Mexico City-based Chava Studio in deep navy is a made-to-order chef’s kiss. Obsessed. Thanks, perimenopause. Insomnia has its perks when it comes to discovery.
And speaking of a tux moment, this new version from Universal StandardxHenning is stellar, if not a bit spendy but a good investment. The jacket is a bit slimmer than shown in the photo, but I love the weight, which feels somewhat seasonless, and a silhouette like this could easily become a wardrobe staple whenever you need it.
On that front, it’s taking my whole life force not to buy this blazer from the Frankie Shop. I don’t need it, but the color is divine.
And if all this menswear has you looking for something feminine, this Laroude knock-off Mary Jane at Zara would be great with a suit to soften the look.
This taupe/silver eyeshadow from Jones Road is a nice little pick-me-up on the beauty front. I dab it on my lids with my fingers for smudgy appeal. Lovely.
I am super curious about the launch of APC’s self-care line. I’m curious about the fragrance and the hand wash.
Also, I spent many years writing for StriVectin, the skincare brand, and I still love their products. This new serum feels so luxe on application and really hydrates the heck out of parched winter skin. Home run for those who go a bit dry in the colder months.
I have finally gotten around to setting up my new phone (why do I wait so long?) and needed a new phone case and this checkered one from Clare V. has my number.
And since the Super Bowl is upon us, this Sea tee is so cute and would be nice with leather leggings, tights, or whatever you want for the big game. And the ultimate fantasy football attire must be this vintage late 60s iconic dress from Geoffrey Beene pictured at the top of the post. Next-level.
So, this month's big takeaway is to hunker down, buckle up, and look for signs that growth and change are just around the corner. And if that’s not enough, here is a good anchovy pasta recipe for muddling through. It’s perfect and easy when feeling zapped and craving something savory yet simple. That’s all I’ve got. Be right back. XO
Well you have some real menopause surprises ahead! Have as much sex as you can now- that's my best advice. Haave you tried the Jones road face color pot? It looks yummy but need someone whose tried it. Nice boots you're right!
