‘Tis the season, and deck the halls; it’s holiday time (or at least that’s what all the brands tell us.)
You could look at all these pre-holiday gift suggestions as a bit desperate in this shaky environment, or you could get good and organized and jump ahead of the pack and procure your prezzies with a pre-game frame of mind. For the sake of this post, let’s go with the latter. After all, who doesn’t love an early bird special?
Over the next few weeks, I’ll suggest some gifts that speak to me and my love for gift-giving. It’s one of my favorite things: Oprah and I. We get the power of a great gift.
Today’s gift guide is all about classic gifts with a modern, unique spin. Think of that perfect sweater, piece of jewelry, or something fun for a sports fan. I love how the below are a fun alternative to a traditional gift.
So let’s get to gifting.
For the homebody: I adore these new ceramics from Bella Freud. They’re chic, cheeky, and an excellent way to update an often stodgy category. We all have our grandmother’s china and never use it, but these pieces would look so cool displayed on your shelf or breakfront.
For the sports fan: Though I was sad the Phillies lost the World Series, I’m a Yankees gal if I am anything sports related and have been noticing a lot of cool girls wearing a Yankees hat with their Fall attire. I got this Todd Snyder Head Start boucle cap, and I love it. Perfect for you, or perfect for him.
For the pajama mama: I adore pajamas and have since the pandemic. These pink party pajamas from Sleeper are just the cutest thing, and that marabou trim is saying I’m a 60s party hostess in the best of ways.
For the classic cool kid: A cashmere sweater is a ubiquitous gift. This new shape from J.Crew feels molto modern and comes in the best colors.
For the well-tred: Socks are a classic stocking stuffer, but they don’t have to be stuffy. There are so many good pairs over at M.Patmos, a wonderful source for cool basics, so I love these Le Bon Shoppe socks and adore this sexy sock to wear with heels or clogs. These shearling-lined babas from Sabah have not left my feet since I got them. You can wear them at home or out and about. So fabulous.
For the sensorially inclined: You all know I love the fragrance. It makes a beautiful gift, but it can be difficult because it's so personal. If you happen to be gifting yourself or someone in New York City, may I recommend a concierge experience at Aedes? They will help you choose a scent at many price points and preferences. I love that this is also an experiential gift—bonus points for popping over to Corner Bar for a Manhattan after purchasing a new signature scent.
For the pearl girl/guy: How can I not recommend some pearls, considering the title of this newsletter? I adore these from Jennifer Fisher and would put a little charm on them to elevate them to something new. A simply gorgeous (and not inexpensive) gift.
For the fashion fan: I spotted this new book from stylist Katie Grande, and it’s a goodie full of inspiration and stunning looks. I love a coffee table book as a gift, and this one won’t disappoint.
For the snowman: If you have a man in your life and live in a cold climate, this scarf from Howlin’ will do the trick. The colorful vibe feels fresh and modern when worn with a bit of a wink over a worn-in denim jacket and a coat.
For the lounge lizard: For those who work from home like me, may I suggest a jumpsuit from Alex Mill? The jumpsuit has become a cool girl comfort staple, and this sweater version is fabulous. If you want to level up with a bit of luxe, go for the cashmere version.
To round out the list, I’d recommend the following:
These gloves. This charcoal candle is absolutely a home run. I got one as a gift, and it’s so subtle yet powerful and makes your home smell like that chic store in the West Village that always smells amazing. And this affordable phone case makes monograms feel oh-so moderne.
Thus concludes this week’s gift guide. May you bestow gifting goodness on them, and of course, on you. XO
