Can I have a word?
I’ve been thinking about how much I love this new outlet for my musings. And as I wander around my brain and think about who I am and what I want to share and say, the mantra word that comes to mind is “unapologetic.”
I’m at a point where I wear what I want, buy what I want, and do what I want most of the time. That’s the reward of being my age, and it’s also completely in tune with my rebellious Gen X gestalt. Living an unapologetic life is what I’m all about. It’s my party, and I’ll wear and do what I want to. You get it.
So I’ve changed the name of this publication, and I’m not sorry. Think sequins on Sunday. Dancing like nobody’s watching. And being your true beautiful self and protecting that self from anything that feels counter to its growth and happiness. I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I do. And now for a bit of housekeeping.
First, we embrace the fine art of not giving a fuck. Or rather, giving a fuck about the right stuff. We channel a “fuck it” vs. “fear it” mentality. That’s how we make necessary pivots away from the things that no longer serve us and own our truth.
Second, we embrace aging. Because what’s the alternative? We’re not trying to look or be younger or force fit ourselves into some societal box. We’re all about looking and feeling healthy to be present, not live in the past or what was. That way, we can also look forward to the future. Oh, and ps. Do you like going to the derm a few times a year? Me, too. NBD.
Third, we wear what we want. We don’t need a special occasion to sparkle; we play with makeup and color and have fun with fashion and style. We also dye our hair or don’t and wear it however we wish. We care not what conventional wisdom says, and we generally hate that phrase. It’s almost worse than “panties”. Almost.
Fourth, we surround ourselves with good people and gorgeous things that make us feel whole. We don’t suffer fools, and though we're not super sentimental, we are proud of the friends, family, and lovely items we’ve collected while we’re here.
Fifth, we’re a bit more Courtney Love than Kim Kardashian. We have an edge, and we’re cool with that. We dig vintage, loud music and love our quirky glasses collection, and most of all, we believe leopard is a neutral. True fact.
Sixth, there are no rules. Living unapologetically is just that. Not going to tell you how to do it. Rather, here to show you my version and share it with the world. Oh, and for the love of all that is holy, please stop apologizing for everything. Life is full of good, bad, and ugly moments. You can own them all and not be sorry.
So, welcome. Please subscribe and take this journey with me. I’m glad you’re here. Let’s have some fun and get to know ourselves a little better.
Unapologetically, Yours. XO
I dont think I've ever been overly apologetic but repair bridges, which I think are two different concepts. Now go rescue a dog and be unapologetic.
Great article. Love reading your stuff. This article has come at a time that I am trying to find a new road. I agree that I too have become unapologetic about my decisions and I'm okay with me. I'm looking forward to pursuing some new ideas and adventures.
