Hello, friends. It’s midmonth, and my manifest energy is high in the sky. I’m in that do-and-go mode, and although Summer is all about slowing down, that’s not what’s up, or at least for me. I’m reshaping my offerings to include some new plus-ups, so stay tuned to hear all about that. Also, this loosened-up look above is IT. New summer uniform potential. Buttoned up yet easygoing. I spotted these trousers on sale in the Internet wild, and although not cargo, ooh. Check, please.
I’m also thoroughly enjoying Lady Gidget. She is the most fantastic dog; every day, she makes me smile more and more. I am so grateful for the love and light she has given us. She’s an outgoing three-and-a-half-pound ball of good energy, and she has brought me back to life after losing my sweet Khan man. Looking forward to taking her to the beach for a few weeks this Summer and showing her my favorite place. She is such a gift.
My mid-month posts are usually a bit shorter cause y’all have so much to look at. So here are a few of my very favorite things right now:
Most of you know I’m a music nerd. I recently purchased an epic collection on vinyl from The Style Council, Long Hot Summers, The Story of the. Style Council. Their sultry, breezy, jazzy vibe is right up my warm weather alley and ever-changing moods. Plus, the album art is fire, and Paul Weller’s style is epic. Let’s hear it for male-style icons. PS. The best ones are Brits.
Next is a skincare discovery set from Barbara Sturm, which is well worth the splurge. I purchased this little kit at Bigelow before I went to Kentucky for Derby weekend, and it doesn’t disappoint. Every item is all that and perfect for those of us who no longer wish to schlep our whole medicine cabinet with us wherever we go. So good for warm weekends away.
Next, it’s all about Arnold. As in Schwarzenegger and Palmer. The three-part series on Netflix entitled “Arnold” is fascinating. The bodybuilder/movie star/politician is a fascinating guy, and his personal take on his life is inspiring, particularly his ability to visualize his future success. The other Arnold stands for Arnold Palmer because that is my G-rated bev of choice for the Summer. A divine rediscovery. I love the classic but also love them with hibiscus tea.
Also worth a watch is “Smartless” on Max, a documentary about the hit podcast of the same name featuring Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes. As an honorary lady bro, I love their bro-time banter. Exceptionally funny and authentic. Nothing better than smart dudes talking shit. Plus, Will Arnett. So cute.
Ok, so did you know old ladies with long nails is a thing? Me neither. But according to Jen Romolini on her podcasts with Kim France, “Everything is Fine,” it is interesting because, about a year into the pandemic, my nails started growing like woah. True, I was sneaking off to my manicurist’s home to get my nails done in her basement (don’t judge), but my long, almond-shaped nails have become a bit of a signature, and I’m wondering if my age has made me desire ladyfingers. As a younger woman, I always kept them short. My mom’s mom had amazing LONG red dragon nails well into her 70s, so perhaps it is a thing. Thoughts?
And if you are a dedicated follower of the fashions, you’ve no doubt spotted a summer shoe trend, and that is the mesh ballet slipper inspired by these from Alaia. This is one trend I’m not a fan of- no support. No anything. Not good for city floor funk, though they do look great on this gal I spotted on University Place last night, and her version is like an upscale jelly. I did cave and sprung for these, but not really practical and very reminiscent of these jeweled mesh slippers a friend in barre class reminded me of we used to buy in Chinatown in the 90s. How I pranced through town in those without getting shin splints or acquiring some sort of fungus is a miracle, but prance I did.
Lastly, do blondes have more fun? Answer- who cares. But I’ve been thinking about going blonde ala ongoing hair muse, Edie Campbell, pictured here. I’m fairly light copper now, so perhaps not so painful to lighten up? Perhaps a birthday blonding is in order. I’ll keep you posted.
Until then, keep doing, and for the love of the Lord, keep going. XO
