Happy Pisces season to my favorite Astro vibe. I am a Cancer but am partial to Pisces persons. It must be all that watery, squishy, creative energy. Incidentally, many Christian symbols for Christ use the astrological sign of Pisces, the fish. JC has many of the temperaments and personality traits of a Pisces and is thus considered an archetype of the Piscean. Quite literally, divine.
And speaking of divine, I was delighted at how wonderful New York Fashion week was for Fall/Winter 2023. From Marc Jacobs's fabulous gothic show (those shoes shown top of post made me nostalgic) to more highly wearable looks from Proenza Schouler featuring ultimate New York chick Chloe Sevigny and Tori (Tori is having a bonafide moment amidst all this passionate preppiness), I appreciated American sportswear once again living up to its iconic status as the effortless cool kids. So very good.
Also good is the super cool short hair moment on the London runways like these chops at Christopher Kane.
And over in Millan, everything is moto bene, especially at Prada. I love so much of this classic collection. That Raf/Miuccia magic is in glorious effect.
But here’s what’s not so good. March Vogue.
I know I’m getting older, but the models in the once-huge March book are pre-pubescent at best. They’re ensuring that all races are represented, which is fabulous, but only the cover star Erykah Badu, 52, seemed to be of drinking age.
Also, on the no-bueno side. Of things, and this one may not sit well with some of you, is J. Crew. I may be the only girl in town who does not love the new designer for women’s, but I completely don’t understand why the fashion flock is flipping for her. I find the clothes incredibly dull, and even though preppy is having a resurgence, I think the new collection is very basic and not in a good way. I miss Jenna. That is all. But besides my dismissal of the Crew, I am crushing on a few things this month.
First, these sneaks. Is it just me, or do shoes start being challenging once you hit 50? My feet only want to wear sneakers, so I bought these 327s in Boston, and they feel like heaven and look pretty cool, too, particularly with an all-black ensemble. Highly recommend it. Just look how cool Newbies are in this street-style shot. They are post-normcore cool kids that are yet again having a moment, and I’m here for it and them.
And these from Adidas/Stella McCartney are so weird; they’re good.
This jacket is out of stock, but I’m signed up to get a shout when it returns.
Linda Farrow for COS sunglasses are chic as shit. Full stop.
This robe. I love robes lately, and this one from Sunday Forever exudes that masculine cool I love for languid Sundays at home. Plus, this brand is a home run in general. Love their whole sensibility and the founder is so passionate and hardworking.
Here are a few more things I love:
This Makeup by Mario gloss/serum in Petal Glow. Everything. The perfect hint of color with the perfect shine. It’s def slick but feels hydrating and healthy, and the hue is so pretty.
Ooh, and the buzz for Fuzz from Glossier is worth the hype. It was such a good shade, and it gave me those Claire Foy as the Queen vibes again with its rosy tone.
The new packaging for Do Son from Diptyque. How. gorgeous is the new look for this perfect tuberose scent? Gorgeous.
This suit from Zara with flat sandals makes me sing for Spring—minimal chic at a great price.
The endless possibilities of a good black slip dress. The perfect dress for just about everything. A way back wardrobe staple to throw under a cozy cardi, layer under a blazer, or rock alone for a sultry but not sinful vibe. This one from Rag and Bone is a bit heavier, which I find more flattering.
This Virtue product unfloofs my hair while still keeping it cool and undone. I love their shampoo too, but this product is an excellent do-all.
Other than that, I’m curious. about these pants, all of that fabulous short hair on the UK runways, and this awesome tote on wheels for my intrepid schlep rock tendencies.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve been feeling a bit stuck lately and am looking forward to breathing some life into everything from my wardrobe to my work/life. Let’s bloom and make like Sabrina Impacciatore of "White Lotus” at the SAGs in Valentino. Perfect pink witchy realness, though she is born at the end of this month, thus an Aries and not a Pisces.
Ooh, and speaking of pink, quick retail alert- Glosssier’s new HQ on Spring Street in Soho is a literal pink palace (these photos were captured by Dezeen). I thought millennial pink went the way of the aforementioned normcore, but the store is hard to resist. From pink jumpsuit-clad staff to the perkiest of products, perhaps a little pop-in is in order. Looks like the gotta have it brand is back in a big way. XO
Kicks! Well curated. Wish these musings happened Tri-Monthly. They are such the eucalyptus inhale.
