Embracing My Inner Quaintrelle: Style, Passion, and a New Chapter
On embracing creativity, finding joy in personal style, and turning a lifelong passion into something more.
Good morning, and happy Friday. I’m over here pondering life, questioning the origins of phrases like “minding my p’s and q’s,” and dreaming about bringing a new business idea to life. More on that soon—but let’s say it feels like the perfect project to kick off when the weather warms up.
Speaking of inspiration, have you ever come across the word quaintrelle?
According to Wiktionary, a quaintrelle is “a woman who lives life with passion, charm, and a focus on personal style.” The term traces back to Middle English, from the word queyntrelle, which referred to a “person of fashion.”
I stumbled upon it recently in a meme, and it stopped me. It resonated deeply. In a world of tragic events and existential threats, it’s easy to dismiss fashion, shopping, and personal style as frivolous. But for me, living as a quaintrelle—a woman who leads with passion and creativity—feels vital. Style isn’t just what I wear; it’s how I express myself, find joy, and connect with the world.
This space has always felt like a haven for fellow quaintrelles—a place to convene, reflect, and share the things that spark joy. If the world is on fire metaphorically (and sometimes literally), why not make it more interesting, beautiful, and fun?
Here in New York City, quaintrelles are everywhere. I’ve found my tribe among women who embrace personal expression and creativity. And now, at 54 (soon to be 55!), I’m ready to go all in on what feels most aligned with my identity. Why wait to follow your bliss when it’s calling?
With that spirit, I’m sharing a few things that make me feel positively quaintrellian. (Yes, I made that word up—it’s what quaintrelles do.) Stay tuned, because big things are on the horizon.
I dig this suede fringe jacket, which feels a bit cape-like. It’s not obscenely priced, and it comes in black, which is really chic.
How good is this emerald-green mascara? If you think you are too old for colored mascara, think again. I purchased it and wore it alone without eyeliner or shadow, and it made my green eyes pop.
This artist makes the most amazing things out of felt, and I want her to create a felt version of baby Gidget. How cute!
It’s damn cold in NYC so a good coat is essential. A woman in Pilates was wearing this one, and it was sensational. Not cheap, but spectacular.
I’m in the mood for bright nails, so I enjoy a bit of orange/geranium red on my fingers and toes. This shade is so pretty and uplifting.
Incidentally, quaintrelle values are not only about bold pieces and big statements. Just look at Madame Deneuve above. It is a simple, classic outfit that could be chic to anyone in the room to this day. For this gal, classic also counts in large amounts.
Have a lovely weekend and be back next week. I encourage you to find some charm, even though the world is anything but charming of late. XO.

Adore the fringe jacket...and I have been toying with the idea of a blue mascara as I saw it applied under a black coat and it's stunning.
